When naming your salon keep in mind that there are thousands upon thousands of potential names out there, and many of them sound great, but there digging a little deeper will let you find one that is even better. A good name is key because it is the first thing potential customers walking down the street often see of a salon. A witty catchy name will jump out at a customer. If you do the naming properly, then people might never be able to forget it, even years after your business has moved (imagine you’ve retired to a tropical paradise). People could be sitting there discussing your business, years later. Hair salon names are well known because of some of the punny witty combinations that people have chosen to use. Famous examples of hair care businesses with clever names include Jack the Clipper, and Curl up and Dye. Remember though that it’s very easy to go overboard, and go from witty and clever into downright bizarre.
When choosing your name, keep a notebook handy and jot down everything that comes to you. Seek inspiration in the landscape that surrounds your business. From the nooks and crannies of the inner city to the rolling hills at the city’s edge, it is all there for you, to act as inspiration, to give you lots of sparks that might ignite your creativity and help you find that one single name that makes you think, wow. But if all else fails and you can’t find your creativity, and you’re struggling with writer’s block – or at least salon-namer’s block – then there are other methods that can help. Included in them is the brute force attack, where you just simply write down everything that comes into your head. Then you transpose the best 10% of those over to a master list. Then you start again and compile another long list, before adding the top 10% to the master list. Soon the master list will grow, until you do the same procedure. Select the top 10% of the master list, and select the best from that list. By then you should have some really good suggestions. If all else fails, look to the Internet for inspiration, there are websites about salon business start-ups hair salon naming hubs, and naming websites, and even name generators. Keep at it, and before long you will find what you are seeking.
